AmpNexus Sentinel

Know what your estate is telling you—and what it cannot.

Sentinel evaluates not only whether a charger appears healthy, but how much evidence exists to support that conclusion across a mixed charging estate.

PlugStream Native, verified OCPP and approved vendor signals retain their meaning before becoming a scoped Sentinel estate view and prioritised action.

The hidden problem

No reported fault is not the same as good evidence

One charger may expose detailed electrical, thermal, protection, and state information. Another may report only basic availability and session events. Both can appear green on the same dashboard.

The colour looks consistent. The evidence is not.

Sentinel keeps that difference visible. When evidence is limited, stale, contradictory, or unavailable, the operational view shows the gap instead of quietly treating uncertainty as health.

Two questions

Separate the conclusion from the evidence

Viewed together, the two measures distinguish “this asset appears healthy with supporting evidence” from “this asset has not told us enough.”

Operational view

Health

What does the available evidence suggest about this charger?

Health summarises what the available, relevant evidence suggests about an asset’s operational condition. A responsible health view should show when it was evaluated, link to the evidence behind it, and remain inconclusive when the evidence is insufficient.

Built from relevant state, event, measurement and trend evidence.

Evidence view

Observability

How much credible evidence is available to support that view?

Observability describes the coverage, freshness, provenance, and usefulness of the evidence available for evaluation. It makes gaps visible instead of allowing “no reported fault” to become “healthy.”

Built from coverage, freshness, provenance, usefulness and corroboration.

Health describes the conclusion. Observability describes the evidence available to support it.

What to investigate

Missing or stale evidence remains visible; Sentinel does not turn silence into a favourable conclusion.

Correlated evidence timeline

See the relationship, not just the latest value

Current, temperature, contactor and RCD evidence share one timeline so operators can see what changed together and why a review was prioritised.

The sequence is illustrative; available evidence remains scoped to the charger and verified integration.

Current, temperature, contactor and RCD evidence share a timeline before Sentinel presents the supporting evidence, unknown boundary and operator action.

Mixed estates

Built for differences without pretending every charger is the same

Sentinel works with verified capabilities exposed through OCPP 1.6, relevant OCPP 2.x variants, approved vendor APIs, and PlugStream Native device evidence. Protocol support alone does not guarantee a complete data set; capability can vary by manufacturer, model, firmware, configuration, and integration route.

Maintenance

Prioritise the questions that have evidence behind them

Changes from an asset’s own baseline, repeated findings, comparable cohort trends, and deteriorating telemetry can justify a closer look. The maintenance view surfaces patterns with an explanation; it does not promise a fault diagnosis or guarantee that a failure will be predicted.

Evidence depth

A clearer view of what each integration can evidence

The assurance ladder applies to third-party evidence and integrations. PlugStream Native remains a separate device relationship.

These levels describe verified evidence depth for third-party integrations. They do not rate electrical safety, product quality or standards compliance.

  1. 01

    Observed

Baseline operational evidence is available through a verified integration, with known limitations made visible.

  2. 02

    Enhanced

Additional verified signals or context extend the baseline view.

  3. 03

    Integrated

A deeper supported integration provides documented mappings, provenance, and a broader evidence set.

  4. 04

    Confidence Ready

A verified evidence interface supports the Sentinel Confidence framework.

Available Sentinel options

Choose the operating support your estate needs

Use Sentinel as a critical-risk baseline, an operational monitoring service, a managed response layer or a priority estate service. The right option depends on your estate size, hardware mix, internal team and response expectations.

Sentinel Protect

Included with AmpNexus

Identifies critical safety and security risks for actively connected AmpNexus chargepoints.

Sentinel Monitor

Adds routine operational monitoring, visibility and basic support.

Sentinel Managed

Recommended

Adds configurable thresholds, escalation and regular reporting.

Sentinel Priority

Adds custom rules, cross-site intelligence, integrations and controlled automation.

Find out what your estate can actually evidence
